cent / mil
Hundreds and Thousands
Ducent is one word, and du mil is two.
How It Works
| Number | Esperanto |
|---|---|
| 100 | cent |
| 200 | ducent |
| 500 | kvincent |
| 101 | cent unu |
| 1000 | mil |
| 2000 | du mil |
| 1990 | mil naŭcent naŭdek |
You normally say cent and mil alone, with no unu in front. Only the tens and hundreds join into one word (dudek, ducent). Every other part stays separate, and that includes the thousands: du mil, dek du mil.
Number words such as cent and mil take no -j or -n, but the noun after them does: ducent libroj, ducent librojn.
Miliono (million) is a noun. It takes -j in the plural (du milionoj) and da before the thing it counts: miliono da homoj.
