mi vidas + Object + Infinitive

I See Him Come

Level 4

The object is the one who does the action of the infinitive.

How It Works

VerbExampleMeaning
vidiMi vidas Anan kuri en la parko.I see Ana running in the park.
aŭdiAna aŭdis Kenjin kanti.Ana heard Kenji sing.
lasiMia patrino lasis min iri al la kongreso. My mother let me go to the congress.
igiLa instruisto igis ilin ripeti la vortojn. The teacher made them repeat the words.

The object is the doer of the infinitive: Ana runs, Kenji sings. The infinitive tells what the object does. The object has -n because it is the object of the main verb.

You can also use a ke clause after verbs of seeing and hearing: Mi vidas, ke Ana kuras. The infinitive form is shorter. After lasi, the infinitive is the usual choice.

Do not use a verb with an ending after the object: say lin veni, not lin venas.

Examples (5)

  1. Mi vidas Anan kuri en la parko.

I see Ana running in the park.

Anan is the object, and Ana does the running.

    Ana heard Kenji sing.

Kenjin is the object of aŭdis, and Kenji does the singing.

Common Mistakes

  • Using the subject form for the object.

    Mi vidas li veni.
    Mi vidas lin veni.

Li is the object of vidas, so it takes -n: lin.

  • Using a verb with an ending after the object.

    Mi vidas lin venas.
    Mi vidas lin veni.

The action after the object is an infinitive. Use a ke clause if you want a finite verb: Mi vidas, ke li venas.
