فقط
Only with فقط
Where you put فقط changes what it limits, so the same words can mean two things.
How It Works
| Sentence | Meaning |
|---|---|
| فقط فرید چای خورد. | Only Farid had tea. |
| فرید فقط چای خورد. | Farid had only tea. |
| فرید فقط صبح چای خورد. | Farid had tea only in the morning. |
The verb keeps its own form, positive or negative. فقط does not make a sentence negative.
تنها also means only, and it goes before the word too: تنها او آمد. (Only she came.) After the subject, تنها means alone: او تنها آمد. (She came alone.)
فقط fits numbers and times well: فقط دو نفر (only two people), فقط تا ساعت شش (only until six). In a shop, a short question checks the total: فقط همین؟ (Only this?)
