به نظر میرسد که
It Seems and It Turns Out
To say how a person looks, put the adjective in front: مادرم امروز خسته به نظر میرسد. (My mother looks tired today.)
How It Works
Use به نظر میرسد که when you judge from what you see or hear: به نظر میرسد که امشب برف میبارد. (It seems that it will snow tonight.)
| Pattern | Example |
|---|---|
| به نظر میرسد که + a sentence | به نظر میرسد که امشب برف میبارد. |
| an adjective + به نظر میرسد | او امروز خسته به نظر میرسد. |
| به نظرم میرسد که | به نظرم میرسد که این راه نزدیکتر است. |
| معلوم میشود که + a sentence | از چهرهٔ مادرم معلوم میشود که خوشحال است. |
| معلوم شد که + a sentence | معلوم شد که دکان بسته است. |
In the first pattern, میرسد stays the same, because "it" is the situation. When a person or a thing is the subject, میرسد agrees with it: من خسته به نظر میرسم, آنها خسته به نظر میرسند.
You can put an ending on نظر to show whose view it is: به نظرم (to me), به نظرت (to you), به نظرش (to him or her).
معلوم میشود که says "it is clear that". In the past, معلوم شد که says "it turned out that": the answer arrived after a while. Use به نظر میرسد for a guess, and معلوم میشود for something that the signs have already shown.
After که, use an ordinary verb, such as میبارد or شده است.

Common Mistakes
Putting the adjective after the phrase, as English does.
مادرم امروز به نظر میرسد خسته.مادرم امروز خسته به نظر میرسد.In Dari the adjective comes first, and the verb میرسد closes the sentence.
Leaving میرسد in the "it" form when a person is the subject.
من خسته به نظر میرسد.من خسته به نظر میرسم.When a person is the subject, میرسد takes that person's ending.
