Each word starts its own short sentence, and a comma separates the steps.

How It Works

Use these words to tell a meal, a trip or a daily routine in order. Two steps need only اول and بعد. A longer list adds بعد از آن and در آخر.

در آخر means finally. The word آخر by itself means last or the end. Put a comma after the word when it starts the sentence: در آخر، چای می‌نوشیم.

بعد از needs a noun after it. بعد از نان means after the meal. Between two clauses, start the second one with بعد: نان خوردم، بعد رفتم.

اول دست‌هایم را شستم، بعد نان خوردم.
First I washed my hands, then I ate.
اول and بعد put two actions in order.
اول به بازار رفتیم، بعد به خانه برگشتیم.
First we went to the market, then we came back home.
Each step has its own verb at the end.
بعد از آن، مادرم چای آورد.
After that, my mother brought tea.
بعد از آن adds a step in the middle.
در آخر، همه با هم میوه خوردیم.
Finally, we all had fruit together.
در آخر closes the list.
اول درس می‌خوانم، بعد بازی می‌کنم.
First I study, then I play.
The same words work with the present tense.

بعد از نان خوردم، به مکتب رفتم.
نان خوردم، بعد به مکتب رفتم.
بعد از needs a noun after it. For two steps, say the first step and then start the second with بعد.
