Plural Direct Objects

Level 2

Common accusative plurals include masculine gradove, feminine knjige and neuter sela. The masculine singular animacy contrast does not simply repeat in these plural noun endings.

How It Works

A masculine expanded plural such as gradovi has accusative gradove. An unexpanded masculine plural such as prijatelji has accusative prijatelje. The exact stem and extension belong to the noun’s paradigm.

Common feminine -a nouns use -e: knjige. Neuter nominative and accusative plurals coincide: sela. These shared endings can look like other case forms, so the governing construction remains important.

Modifiers must agree with the object phrase: Vidim nove gradove. Do not carry the masculine nominative plural adjective novi into an accusative object just because both are plural.
