ako + Present
Open Conditions
Ako introduces a possible condition.
How It Works
Compare Ako imam vremena, čitam, a recurring situation, with Ako imam vremena, doći ću, a possible future plan. Context and the main verb help locate the condition in time.
A perfective present can also name a future boundary: ako završim. This does not turn the present into a general future tense for every kind of clause.
Put a comma after an initial condition clause. When an ordinary integrated ako-clause follows the main clause, a comma is usually unnecessary.
Examples (3)
- Ako imaš vremena, dođi.
If you have time, come.
The condition supports an invitation.
- Ako završim posao, nazvat ću te.
If I finish work, I will call you.
Perfective završim names a possible future completion.
- Ostat ćemo kod kuće ako pada kiša.
We will stay at home if it is raining.
The condition follows the main clause.
