tijekom / za vrijeme + Genitive
During an Event
Tijekom and za vrijeme introduce a period in the genitive.
How It Works
Use a genitive noun phrase after tijekom: tijekom dana, tijekom putovanja. The phrase identifies the interval containing the event.
Za vrijeme works as a multiword preposition followed by a genitive expression: za vrijeme nastave. The word vrijeme is part of this construction; do not inflect the following noun as a direct object of za.
To say that an activity continues through every part of a period, add explicit duration information. A during-phrase by itself can also locate a short event inside a longer interval.
