pisat ću / doći ću

Croatian Future Spelling

Level 2

A -ti infinitive loses its final i before a following short future auxiliary. An infinitive in -ći keeps that i.

How It Works

In Pisat ću sutra., the -ti infinitive comes first, so pisati loses final i. The same pattern gives radit ćemo and čitat ćeš.

When the auxiliary comes before the infinitive, retain the full form: Ja ću pisati. The standard infinitive is also retained after a negative auxiliary: Neću pisati.

Infinitives in -ći follow a different spelling rule. Write doći ću, reći ćeš and ići ćemo, retaining i. Do not join the two written words.

Examples (4)

  1. Pisat ću sutra.

    I will write tomorrow.

Pisati loses final i before ću.

  2. Ja ću pisati sutra.

    I will write tomorrow.

The following infinitive keeps its full form.

  3. Doći ćemo rano.

    We will come early.

Doći retains i even before the auxiliary.

  4. Neću pisati danas.

    I will not write today.

The negative auxiliary precedes full pisati.
