kod + Genitive
At Someone's Place
Kod can locate someone at a person’s home or workplace, or near an identified place. Its complement is genitive.
How It Works
Ana je kod liječnika. locates Ana at the doctor’s practice or with the doctor. The noun liječnik takes genitive liječnika. Kod prijatelja often means at a friend’s place.
Kod can also mean by or near a landmark: kod škole. The exact relation comes from the context; it does not always mean literally inside the place named.
With a pronoun, choose the full genitive form: kod mene or kod njih. For movement to a destination, learn the appropriate construction rather than assuming every English to is kod.
