ho (pronom neutre)
Neutral Object Pronoun Ho
Ho replaces a whole idea, a clause, or a neutral expression such as això.
How It Works
No ho sé can mean I do not know that fact. Ho entenc can refer to a whole explanation rather than a masculine singular object. Ho is invariable; it does not become feminine or plural to match nouns mentioned inside the idea.
Compare compro el llibre, el compro with entenc això, ho entenc. A definite noun object normally takes el/la/els/les, while a neutral idea takes ho. Ho can also replace an attribute in an appropriate ser or estar construction, such as és metge? Sí, ho és.
Place ho before a finite verb or after an infinitive: ho pots fer or pots fer-ho. Never apostrophize ho or replace it with l' before a vowel. In writing, ho and the conjunction o are distinct words.
