Indicative after Factual Statements
Predicates that assert a belief, knowledge or factual report commonly introduce indicative clauses.
How It Works
Crec que vindrà and penso que tens raó present a belief as the speaker's assertion, even though a belief is not certain knowledge. Uncertainty in a broad everyday sense does not by itself require the subjunctive.
Knowledge and factual reports likewise commonly take indicative: sabem que falta una dada and consta que van arribar tard. An evaluative predicate can take subjunctive even when its content is true, as in és lamentable que faltin dades. Therefore the label factual must describe the clause's asserted role, not simply whether an outside observer could verify it. Identify the predicate's meaning before choosing mood.
