Balearic Salat Article
Balearic salat articles include es, sa, es/ses and elided s’, within a regional and register-sensitive system.
How It Works
Sa casa and es llibre use the Balearic salat article. Feminine plural ses and masculine plural es distinguish number and gender; before appropriate vowel openings, singular s’ can appear. The general el/la articles also remain part of Balearic usage, especially in formal writing and in particular lexical expressions.
Do not replace every article in a Balearic sentence mechanically. Place names, set expressions and specific constructions have their own established usage. The salat system is not a simplified spelling of the general article.
These examples illustrate recognition of common forms, not a demand that every Catalan learner adopt them. Use general articles for a broadly addressed formal text unless its regional voice and genre call for salat.
