Balearic Article Comparison
Balearic salat articles include es, sa, es/ses and elided s’, within a regional and register-sensitive system.
How It Works
Sa casa and es llibre use the Balearic salat article. Feminine plural ses and masculine plural es distinguish number and gender; before appropriate vowel openings, singular s’ can appear. The general el/la articles also remain part of Balearic usage, especially in formal writing and in particular lexical expressions.
A regional conversation can use sa casa where a broadly addressed formal notice uses la casa. Both belong to the Balearic speaker's available repertoire. The choice depends on genre, audience and established local expressions, not on whether the speaker knows the general article. Keep feminine plural ses distinct from masculine plural es, and recognize s’ as singular elision. Do not mechanically transform a quoted place name or set phrase.
