gdje, kamo, odakle
Where, To Where, From Where
Where, to where, from where.
How It Works
| question | asks about | example |
|---|---|---|
| gdje | where (place) | Gdje stanuješ? |
| kamo | to where (direction) | Kamo putuješ? |
| odakle | from where | Odakle je Selma? |
The answers match: u Tuzli (place), u Tuzlu (direction), iz Tuzle (origin).
The old split between gdje and kamo is still taught and used in careful writing. In casual speech, many people use Gdje ideš? for Where are you going?, and that is normal Bosnian. You can use either one. Kamo sounds a little more formal or careful.
The same triple exists in the answer words: ovdje (here), ovamo (to here) and odavde (from here); tamo (there), and odande (from there).
