još / već
Still and Already
Još is still or more. Već is already.
How It Works
Two small words tell the listener about time.
| Word | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| još | still | Još spavam. |
| još | more, another | Još jednu kafu, molim. |
| još ne | not yet | Još ne znam. |
| već | already | Već je pet sati. |
Both words stand near the verb, often right before it.
When you use još with a noun that means "one more", the noun and the number still have to agree: još jedan hljeb, još jedna kafa, and after the object forms još jednu kafu.
Još can also join a comparison, as in još bolje (even better). That use comes later.
