neću
Negative Future
Neću means I will not or I do not want to.
How It Works
| Person | Form |
|---|---|
| ja | neću |
| ti | nećeš |
| on, ona | neće |
| mi | nećemo |
| vi | nećete |
| oni | neće |
After the negative form the verb is an infinitive: Neću ići. Neće padati kiša. Unlike the positive future, the negative form stands first because it is a full word. Do not cut the final -i.
Neću can mean will not (a plan or a forecast) or refuse (I do not want to). Context shows which. Add li for a question: Nećeš li doći? (Aren't you coming?)
In speech you will also hear the short form of the question without li, as in Nećeš doći?, with a rising voice. A bare neću can sound more stubborn than a plain forecast, so add a time word such as sutra to make a plan clear.
