Money and Prices

Level 2

Marka changes with the number: jedna marka, dvije marke, pet maraka.

How It Works

Bosnia and Herzegovina uses the convertible mark, called marka and written KM. One hundred feninga make a marka.

NumberFormExample
1markajedna marka
2, 3, 4markedvije marke
5 and upmarakapet maraka

The same rule holds for 11 to 14, which take maraka: jedanaest maraka. In 21, 22 and 25 the last number decides: dvadeset jedna marka, dvadeset dvije marke, dvadeset pet maraka.

To ask a price, use Koliko košta kafa? The answer is Kafa košta dvije marke. For several things, use the plural koštaju: Ćevapi koštaju osam maraka.

Examples (4)

  1. Kafa košta dvije marke.

  2. Sirnica košta tri marke.

The cheese pie costs three marks.

    Tri also takes marke.

  3. Ćevapi koštaju osam maraka.

Common Mistakes

  • Learners use the singular or the marke form after every number.

    Kafa košta pet marke.
    Kafa košta pet maraka.

From five up, marka takes the form maraka.
