Hundreds and Thousands
Count hundreds with stotine and thousands with hiljade, then put the smaller number after them.
How It Works
For 100 you use sto. Above 100, stotina works like a feminine noun, so the form depends on the number before it.
| Number | Words |
|---|---|
| 100 | sto |
| 200 | dvije stotine |
| 300, 400 | tri stotine, četiri stotine |
| 500 | pet stotina |
| 1000 | hiljada or jedna hiljada |
| 2000, 5000 | dvije hiljade, pet hiljada |
Hundreds are often written as one shortened word: dvjesto or dvjesta, tristo or trista, petsto. The forms vary, so the separate words (dvije stotine, tri stotine) are the safe choice.
The counted thing then follows: pet stotina maraka, dvije hiljade maraka. Bosnian uses hiljada, not tisuća.
