Numbers One to Ten
Count адзін, два, тры, чатыры, пяць, шэсць, сем, восем, дзевяць, дзесяць. Zero is нуль.
How It Works
The numbers:
- 0 нуль
- 1 адзін · 2 два · 3 тры · 4 чатыры · 5 пяць
- 6 шэсць · 7 сем · 8 восем · 9 дзевяць · 10 дзесяць
Spelling tips. Дзевяць and дзесяць start with дз (see dzekanye). Сем and восем have no soft sign at the end. Шэсць has э because ш is always hard.
What happens to the noun:
- 1 agrees with the noun: адзін дзень, адна хвіліна, адно акно.
- 2, 3, 4 take the nominative plural: два браты, тры кнігі. Два becomes дзве with feminine nouns: дзве кнігі.
- 5 to 10 take the genitive plural: пяць хвілін, дзесяць гадоў.
For now, learn a few useful phrases as whole chunks, such as пяць хвілін (five minutes). The linked entries explain each pattern in detail. To ask "how many?", use колькі.
