Verbs with Fixed Prepositions
Learn these verbs together with their preposition and case: залежаць ад (depend on) + genitive, спадзявацца на (count on) + accusative, згаджацца з (agree with) + instrumental: Усё залежыць ад цябе. (Everything depends on you.)
How It Works
A verb and its preposition work as one unit, and the preposition sets the case of the noun after it. Here are common ones:
- залежаць ад + genitive (to depend on): Усё залежыць ад надвор'я. See ад with the genitive.
- складацца з + genitive (to consist of): Кніга складаецца з трох частак.
- спадзявацца на + accusative (to hope for, to count on): Я спадзяюся на тваю дапамогу.
- згаджацца / згадзіцца з + instrumental (to agree with a person or opinion): Я згаджаюся з табой.
- згаджацца / згадзіцца на + accusative (to agree to a plan or offer): Ён згадзіўся на нашу прапанову.
- удзельнічаць у + locative (to take part in): Яна ўдзельнічае ў конкурсе.
- верыць у + accusative (to believe in): Я веру ў цябе.
- глядзець на + accusative (to look at): Паглядзі на гэтае фота.
Several verbs differ from Russian or English and have their own entries: смяяцца з (laugh at), хварэць на (be ill with) and сумаваць па (miss).
Some English verbs need a preposition where Belarusian needs none. Чакаць (wait for) and слухаць (listen to) take a direct object: Я чакаю сябра. Other verbs take a bare case with no preposition at all: see verbs with the dative, verbs with the genitive and verbs with the instrumental.

Keeping the nominative after the preposition.
