अउर

And: अउर

Level 1Sounds Like a'ura

अउर joins words and sentences.

How It Works

अउर is the Awadhi word for and. Hindi writes और.

JoinsExample
two peopleनेहा अउर अमित
two thingsचाय अउर रोटी
two sentencesहम बजार जात अही अउर तुम घरे रहौ।

It can also mean more or another: अउर चाय? asks more tea? and अउर कउन? asks who else?

When you list several things, you can use it only before the last one, or leave it out in between: चाय, रोटी अउर दाल.

The spelling अउर shows both parts of the sound, a short a sliding into u. The short spelling औ is read the same way, because Awadhi औ also slides from a to u.
