তথাপি
Still, However: তথাপি
তথাপি opens a sentence that goes against what came before: কালি বৰষুণ হ’ল। তথাপি আমি বজাৰলৈ গ’লোঁ। “It rained yesterday. Even so, we went to the market.”
How It Works
তথাপি is a written-style word for “even so” or “still”. It is common in news and school books.
| Word | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| তথাপি | even so, still | মোক তথাপি এইটো লাগে। “I still need this.” |
| তথাপিও | the same word with -ও | কিন্তু তথাপিও “but still” |
Put it after a sentence with a surprise or a problem. The next sentence starts with তথাপি and says what still happened or is still true: কালি বৰ ঠাণ্ডা দিছিল। তথাপি তেওঁ বাহিৰলৈ ওলাই গ’ল। “Yesterday it was very cold. Even so, he went outside.”
For something that is still going on right now, use এতিয়াও instead.
