কিছু / কিছুমান

Some

Level 2Sounds Like kichu / kichumāna

কিছু is “some, a little” and কিছুমান is “some of them”: কিছুমান ৰোগীয়ে ভুগি আছে “some patients are suffering”.

How It Works

Two small words say “not all, not none”.

WordMeaningExample
কিছুsome, a littleআপোনাৰ কিছু সুনাম আছে “you have some reputation”
কিছুsomewhatতোমাৰ কথা কিছু ঠিকেই “what you say is somewhat right”
কিছুমানsome of themকিছুমান মানুহে চাহ ভাল পায় “some people like tea”

When the group is the doer, the noun usually takes the doer ending: in কিছুমান ৰোগীয়ে ভুগি আছে, ৰোগী becomes ৰোগীয়ে.

Use কিছু for amounts, such as tea, and for stretches of time, such as কিছু দিন “some days”. Use কিছুমান for some members of a group, such as people.

A group of things works the same way: মোৰ কিছুমান কিতাপ পুৰণি “Some of my books are old”.
