This Kind and That Kind

Level 4Sounds Like ēnēkuraā / tēnēkuraā

তেনেকুৱা কথা means “such a thing”, and তাই তেনেকুৱাই means “she is like that”.

How It Works

These words come from এই “this” and সেই “that”.

WordMeansExample
এনেকুৱাthis kind of, like thisএনেকুৱা কথা “this kind of talk”
তেনেকুৱাthat kind of, like thatতেনেকুৱা কথা “that kind of talk”

They never change for number or person. The same word fits a man, a woman, a thing or a thought. Speakers often use the two for the same thing: তুমি এনেকুৱা কাম কেনেকৈ কৰিলা? and তুমি তেনেকুৱা কাম কেনেকৈ কৰিলা? both mean “how could you do such a thing?”. The verb takes the usual ending for the person you speak to: কৰিলা for তুমি, কৰিলে for আপুনি.

At the end of a sentence, a small -ই can stress the word: তাই তেনেকুৱাই “she is just like that”.
