Full Stops and Question Marks
মোৰ নাম ৰিনা। “My name is Rina.” আপোনাৰ নাম কি? “What is your name?”
How It Works
Assamese uses three marks to end a sentence.
| Mark | Used for | Example |
|---|---|---|
| । | a statement | মোৰ নাম ৰিনা। |
| ? | a question | আপোনাৰ নাম কি? |
| ! | an exclamation | নমস্কাৰ! |
A question mark or an exclamation mark stands alone. Do not add a দাৰি after it.
The দাৰি is a short straight line. Type the danda ।, not the letter I or the bar from an English keyboard.
Commas and quotation marks work as in English. Quotations use “ ”. Because the script has no capital letters, the first word of a sentence looks like any other word.
