mynd i + Verb-Noun
Going to: Mynd I + Verb-Noun
Dw i'n mynd i + a soft-mutated verb-noun = I'm going to ...: Dw i'n mynd i brynu car (I'm going to buy a car).
How It Works
The pattern
- Dw i'n mynd i brynu car. I'm going to buy a car.
- Mae hi'n mynd i ddysgu Cymraeg. She's going to learn Welsh.
- Maen nhw'n mynd i gael parti. They're going to have a party.
The soft mutation comes from i, one of the prepositions that soften: see Soft Mutation After Prepositions. Letters that don't soften stay the same: mynd i siopa, mynd i ffonio, mynd i aros.
Going somewhere or going to do something. The same words cover both: Dw i'n mynd i Gaerdydd (I'm going to Cardiff), Dw i'n mynd i siopa (I'm going shopping). See Going To and Coming From.
Other forms. Question: Wyt ti'n mynd i ddod? (Are you going to come?) Negative: Dw i ddim yn mynd i yrru heno. Past: Ro'n i'n mynd i ddweud hynny! (I was going to say that!)
Plain future. For will, use the future of bod: Bydda i'n prynu car. See Future of Bod.
