Let تو point to the phrase being singled out for comment.

How It Works

A following لیکن clause can make the contrast explicit. The topic itself may be a person, object, quality or action.

The position matters: کام تو آسان ہے comments on the work, while کام آسان تو ہے ... concedes that it is easy before adding a qualification.

Distinguish this particle from conditional تو in اگر ... تو and the familiar pronoun تُو. The written form alone does not tell you its role.

مریم تو تیار ہے، لیکن بلال ابھی سو رہا ہے۔
Maryam is ready, but Bilal is still sleeping.
تو contrasts Maryam’s situation with Bilal’s.
میں تو پیدل جاؤں گا۔
As for me, I will go on foot.
The masculine speaker singles out their own plan.
کام آسان تو ہے، لیکن وقت کم ہے۔
The work is easy, but there is little time.
The particle concedes the quality before a qualification.
یہ کتاب تو بہت دلچسپ ہے۔
This book is really interesting.
The book is made the topic of an emphatic comment.
