v + Accusative or Locative

Into and in

Level 2

Use v with the accusative for a destination and with the locative for a location.

How It Works

Use v with the accusative for a destination and with the locative for a location. A motion verb alone does not decide the case: movement can occur within one location.

Ask whether the phrase answers where or where to. Grem v šolo targets an endpoint, while Tečem v parku places the running inside a park. Describing physical movement is therefore insufficient to choose accusative.

Examples (3)

  1. Grem v šolo.

    I am going to school.

  2. Sem v šoli.

    I am at school.

  3. Tečem v parku.

I am running in the park.
