disponovať / zaoberať sa + Instrumental
Verbs with the Instrumental
Formal verbs with the instrumental: disponovať (have at one's disposal), zaoberať sa (deal with), pohŕdať (despise), riadiť sa (follow rules), oplývať (abound in), vyznačovať sa (be marked by).
How It Works
The verbs. All of them take the instrumental directly:
- disponovať (have available, have at one's disposal): Hotel disponuje vlastným parkoviskom.
- zaoberať sa (deal with, study): zaoberať sa otázkou, zaoberať sa históriou
- pohŕdať (despise): pohŕdať peniazmi
- riadiť sa (follow, be guided by): riadiť sa pokynmi
- oplývať (abound in): oplývať prírodnými krásami
- vyznačovať sa (be marked by): vyznačovať sa kvalitou
No preposition. In the instrumental for means too, the case alone carries the meaning. Do not add s, which means together with: zaoberať sa otázkou, not zaoberať sa s otázkou.
Register. These verbs are typical of reports, hotel and product descriptions and official letters. In speech people usually say mať instead of disponovať, and riešiť instead of zaoberať sa. They fit the nominal style of formal Slovak.
For becoming something with the instrumental, see stať sa.
