lah
Lah for Assertion and Encouragement
Listen to how lah is said, as well as to the words before it.
How It Works
A View or an Invitation
Lah can help present an answer, urge someone to act, or settle a point. It often appears at the end of a short clause.
Read the Exchange
After a friend hesitates, Come with us lah. can encourage them. After someone repeats a wrong detail, Tuesday lah, not Thursday. can sound like a firm correction. The spelling does not tell you the exact tone.
Leave Room for Choice
A statement or instruction is complete without lah. It does not turn every command into a polite request, and it is not interchangeable with leh or meh.
