One or Some from a Set

یکی از دوستانم → one friend. بعضی از دوستانم → some friends.

How It Works

Select one person. یکی از دوستانم اینجاست identifies one member of my friend group. است refers to that one person; the ـم on دوستانم identifies whose friends they are.

Select a human subset. بعضی از دوستانم فارسی می‌دانند refers to some members of the same group. می‌دانند matches the plural human subset, rather than the first-singular owner ending.

Keep the larger set named. یکی از این کتاب‌ها را خریدم names the set with این کتاب‌ها and marks the selected object phrase with را. از expresses selection from the set; it does not replace object marking.

Do not infer an exact count. بعضی از leaves the subset size unstated. It can suggest that the statement does not cover everyone in context, but it is not a fixed percentage or a substitute for an exact number when that number matters.
