بهم، ازش، باهاش

Everyday Prepositions with Pronoun Endings

Level 3

به او کمک کردم has the common everyday counterpart بهش کمک کردم. The shorter phrase still identifies the recipient of help.

How It Works

Keep the relation. به او کمک کردم and everyday بهش کمک کردم both identify the person receiving help. In ازش پرسیدم, از introduces the person asked. Changing the pronoun does not let a learner replace a predicate’s required preposition with را.

These are common conversational Iranian spellings. The با family has familiar variants, including باهم beside باهام; learn the form in its sentence. با هم as two words can instead mean together, so spelling and context matter.

Match the setting. Formal prose can keep full phrases such as به من، از او and با شما. A spoken plural-shaped ending such as ـتون can still respectfully refer to one listener. Third-person endings do not mark gender.

Learn other families separately. Written برایم and برایش and everyday برام and براش are further established forms. Do not invent a contraction for every preposition by copying the letters of one family. A phrase’s complement and the clause’s subject remain separate roles.

Examples (4)

  1. به او کمک کردم.

    I helped that person.

The full written phrase uses به with the recipient of help.

  2. بهش کمک کردم.

    I helped that person.

The everyday form بهش combines به with a third-person complement.

  3. ازش پرسیدم.

    I asked that person.

ازش names the person asked after از; it is not a direct-object marker.

  4. باهام میای؟

    Are you coming with me?

Common everyday باهام and میای correspond to با من and می‌آیی.
