tanben, tanpauc
Also and Neither
Tanben means also, and tanpauc means neither or either.
How It Works
Tanben adds a person or an action to a statement that is positive. Tanpauc does the same for a negative statement. As a short reply, put ieu in front.
| Statement | Reply |
|---|---|
| Parli occitan. | Ieu tanben. (Me too.) |
| Parli pas francés. | Ieu tanpauc. (Me neither.) |
In a full negative sentence, tanpauc comes after pas at the end: Joan ven pas tanpauc. Do not go by the English words. First decide whether the statement you agree with is positive or negative.
Spell it tanben, as in Occitan. The Catalan també and the Spanish tampoco are not Occitan.
Examples (4)
- Maria ven tanben.
Maria is coming too.
Tanben adds Maria to a positive statement.
- Ieu tanben.
Me too.

- Ieu tanpauc.
Me neither.
A short reply to a negative statement.
