bejn
Between
Use named complements or attached forms such as bejni, bejnek and bejnhom.
How It Works
Bejn introduces ‘between’. Two named landmarks can follow in bejn X u Y, with u joining their noun phrases. Each phrase keeps its own article. The same preposition can express an abstract relation, such as a difference between objects.
Attached forms include bejni, referring to me, bejnek, referring to you singular, and bejnhom, referring to them. In bejni u bejnek, each participant is expressed separately. Compare bejn Marija u Pawlu with bejnhom when those people are understood.
In Il-karozza bejnhom, ‘The car is between them’, the car is the located subject and the suffix identifies the landmarks. It does not make the car plural. A plural expression such as bejn il-kotba likewise identifies a set without independently saying how many books it contains.

How It Connects
Learn This First
Introduce both spatial and abstract between-relations. Contrast named landmarks with understood participants and clarify that a plural complement identifies a set without itself specifying an exact count.
