मोर / तोर
Old Pronouns in Songs: मोर and तोर
मोर and तोर are old forms of "my" and "your" found in songs and poems.
How It Works
Songs and poems keep older pronouns. Vidyapati's songs and many folk songs use मोर for "my" and तोर for "your".
| Song | Speech | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| मोर | हमर | my |
| तोर | तोहर | your (familiar) |
- Both words come before the noun and do not change: मोर मन, मोर सखी.
- तोर is the familiar "your", for people very close to you.
- They are common in folk songs, wedding songs and poems.
When you hear them, you know you are in the language of song. In ordinary conversation, say हमर घर for "my house". You will learn to read these words by recognising them in songs.
