Тука and овде mean here, and таму means there: Јас сум тука. Книгата е таму.

How It Works

Here. Тука and овде both mean here: Јас сум тука. Дали има аптека овде?

There. Таму means there, in a place away from you: Книгата е таму.

Going somewhere. The same words show where you are going: Дојди овде! (Come here!) Одам таму. (I am going there.)

No preposition. These words already mean in this place or in that place, so do not add во or на. Use those with nouns instead: во градот, на масата. See Being Somewhere.

Saying there is. English there is is not таму. Use има: Таму има многу луѓе. (There are a lot of people there.) See Saying There Is or Is Not.

Common Mistakes

  • Adding во before тука or таму.

    Јас живеам во тука.
    Јас живеам тука.

    Тука already means in this place, so it needs no preposition.

  • Using таму to mean there is.

    Таму е многу луѓе.
    Таму има многу луѓе.

    Таму only means in that place. To say that something exists, use има.
