Одам на работа со автобус. means I go to work by bus. For walking, say пешки: Одам пешки.

How It Works

Со + vehicle. Macedonian uses the same со as With and Without where English says by:

  • со автобус by bus
  • со воз by train
  • со кола by car
  • со такси by taxi
  • со авион by plane
  • со велосипед by bike

The vehicle stays in its plain form, with no article, because you mean the kind of transport. With the article you mean one particular vehicle: Дојдов со автобусот во осум. (I came on the eight o'clock bus.)

Пешки: on foot. Пешки already means on foot, so it needs no preposition: Одам пешки. You may also hear the shorter пеш.

Asking. Со што одиш на работа? (How do you get to work?) Answer with the phrase alone: Со автобус. · Пешки.

Drive or ride? Without се, the verb вози means to drive: Возам кола is I drive a car. A passenger се вози (rides), or simply uses оди or патува with со: Се возам со автобус. · Патуваме со воз. For where you are going, see Going Somewhere.

    Дојдовте is the polite or plural you form.

    We are flying to Skopje.

  5. До паркот одам пешки.

    I walk to the park.

    Word by Word: To park-the I-go on-foot.

  6. — Со што одиш на училиште? — Пешки.

    — How do you get to school? — On foot.

    Word by Word: — With what you-go to school? — On-foot.

Common Mistakes

  • Putting со before пешки.

    Одам со пешки.
    Одам пешки.

    Пешки is an adverb that already means on foot. Со is only for vehicles.

  • Using вози (drive) to say you travel by bus.

    Возам автобус секој ден.
    Одам со автобус секој ден.

    Возам автобус means I drive a bus, as a bus driver does. A passenger goes со автобус or се вози со автобус.
