Renarrative Future -šot
Reported Future: -šot
-šot passes on a future event you heard about: Rīt būšot silti. (They say it will be warm tomorrow.)
How It Works
1. Making the form.
- es braukšu → braukšot (will reportedly go)
- es būšu → būšot (will reportedly be)
- es nākšu → nākšot, es iešu → iešot
- līs (it will rain) → līšot
Reflexive verbs end in -šoties: atvērsies → atvēršoties (will reportedly open). The negative adds ne-: nebraukšot, nenotikšot.
2. When to use it. Use it to retell plans, forecasts and promises: Sinoptiķi saka, ka nedēļas nogalē līšot lietus. It also appears in reported speech after ka, where it keeps the speaker's distance (see ka + renarrative).
3. The whole set.
- present: braucot (renarrative -ot)
- past: esot braucis (renarrative past esot + -is)
- future: braukšot

Common Mistakes
Combining būs with an -ot form.
Rīt būs esot silti.Rīt būšot silti. The future renarrative is a single word. Būšu gives būšot.
Dropping -ties from a reflexive verb.
Jaunais veikals atvēršot pavasarī.Jaunais veikals atvēršoties pavasarī.The shop opens by itself, so the verb is reflexive: atvērties → atvēršoties. Atvēršot would mean someone will open something.
