is qui (The One Who)
The One Who, What
Use is, ea or id before qui, quae or quod, or leave the first word out.
How It Works
| Latin | English |
|---|---|
| is qui adest | the one who is here |
| ea quae vides | the things that you see |
| quod video | what I see |
| qui quaerit | whoever seeks |
Each word has its own case. Eum qui adest video means I see the one who is here. Eum is accusative because he is the object of video. Qui is nominative because he is the subject of adest.
Without the first word, qui means whoever and quod means what. A proverb or a saying often has no first word at all.
The first word agrees with the person or thing in gender and number. Ii qui means those who, and ea quae means those things which.
