Word Pairs: et ... et, neque ... neque
Both ... and: Et ... Et
Put the first word before the first item and the second word before the second.
How It Works
| Pair | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| et ... et | both ... and | et Marcus et Iulia |
| neque ... neque | neither ... nor | neque Marcus neque Iulia |
| aut ... aut | either ... or | aut Romam aut Athenas |
| cum ... tum | both ... and especially | cum Graece tum Latine |
| non solum ... sed etiam | not only ... but also | non solum Marcus sed etiam Iulia |
Keep each pair together. Aut goes with aut and et goes with et.
Neque ... neque already holds the negative, so the verb is not made negative again.
Et can also be repeated down a list: via, et veritas, et vita.
