go dtí

Until and as Far as

Level 3

Go dtí expresses a boundary in time or space: go dtí an stáisiún, go dtí amárach. Before clauses it participates in forms such as go dtí go.

How It Works

Go dtí expresses a boundary in time or space: go dtí an stáisiún, go dtí amárach. Before clauses it participates in forms such as go dtí go.

Go dtí sets an endpoint in space or time. A following noun or time word supplies the boundary. When the endpoint is a whole event clause, a complementizer is needed in patterns such as go dtí go dtiocfaidh sí.

Examples (3)

  1. Shiúil mé go dtí an stáisiún.

    I walked to the station.

  2. Fan go dtí amárach.

    Wait until tomorrow.

  3. D'fhan sí go dtí an tráthnóna.

    She stayed until the evening.
