English Words in Igbo
A few borrowed words are fine. Prefer Igbo.
How It Works
Igbo has absorbed some words from English, such as the money word naịra. Speakers also mix whole English words into speech, and people have different feelings about it.
| Word | Meaning |
|---|---|
| naịra | naira |
| futbọọlụ | football |
| batri | battery |
Lessons keep English words few at higher levels and almost none at Levels 1 and 2. A name or a brand stays as its owner writes it. Never invent a new borrowed word.
