ahụ: That
Noun + ahụ: that, the.
How It Works
Ahụ is the “that” word.
| Example | Meaning |
|---|---|
| nwanyị ahụ | that woman |
| ụlọ ahụ | that house, the house |
| nri ahụ | that food |
It is also the way Igbo often says “the” when both speakers know the thing. English “the house” and “that house” can both be ụlọ ahụ.
Igbo has no small word that works exactly like English “a” or “the”. Otu “one” can stand before a noun for “a”: otu nwoke.
