जबकि means whereas: मुझे चाय पसंद है, जबकि मेरी पत्नी कॉफ़ी पीती है.

How It Works

जबकि joins two facts and sets them side by side to show how they differ, like English whereas or while. It usually opens the second clause, after a comma.

It has a second, very common use: adding a fact that makes the first one surprising or unfair, like even though or when in fact. वह मुझसे नाराज़ है, जबकि मैंने कुछ नहीं किया means she is angry with me, even though I did nothing.

जबकि does not mean when. For time, use जब. For although at the start of a sentence, use हालाँकि.
