The Past Augment
Some past forms add a stressed ε- when the word needs an extra syllable for its past stress pattern.
How It Works
Some past forms add a stressed ε- when the word needs an extra syllable for its past stress pattern.
The augment often disappears when unstressed, as in έγραψα but γράψαμε. Some verbs have other changes or learned internal augments; never add ε- to every past form.
