ა- (Plain Version Vowel)

The Version Vowel Ა-

Level 4Sounds Like a

The version vowel ა- is part of many doing verbs, and with some verbs it means on something.

How It Works

ა-ი- (for yourself)უ- (for someone else)
ვაკეთებ (I make it)ვიკეთებ (I make it for myself)ვუკეთებ (I make it for him)
ვამზადებ (I prepare it)ვიმზადებ (I prepare it for myself)ვუმზადებ (I prepare it for him)

In verbs like ვაკეთებ, ვაშენებ and ვალაგებ, the ა- (a-) is there in every person: ვაკეთებ, აკეთებ, აკეთებს. Keep it when you change the person.

With some verbs of writing and putting, ა- means on: კონვერტს მისამართი დააწერე (write the address on the envelope). The surface goes in the dative.

The same ა- comes after მ-, გ- or გვ- in verbs such as ვაჩვენებ (I show): ფოტოებს გაჩვენებ (I'll show you the photos).

At Level 5, ა- also builds verbs that make someone do something, such as ვაცინებ (I make him laugh).
