adeus / ata logo / ata mañá

Farewells

Level 1

Say goodbye with adeus. To say when you will see someone again, use ata (until) plus a time word: ata logo (see you later), ata mañá (see you tomorrow).

How It Works

Adeus. The general word for goodbye. It suits both friends and strangers: Adeus, Carme! Among friends you will also hear abur and chao.

Ata + time. Ata means "until", so these farewells literally say "until later", "until tomorrow" and so on:

  • ata logo: see you later (the same day, or just a friendly goodbye)
  • ata mañá: see you tomorrow
  • ata despois: see you afterwards
  • ata o luns: see you on Monday. Days take the article o. See dates and days.

Mañá. The word for "tomorrow" ends in -á with an accent and no n: mañá. See time words.

At night. Boas noites works as a goodbye too, often together with another farewell: Boas noites, ata mañá! See greetings.
