The tens are ۲۰ بیست، ۳۰ سی، ۴۰ چهل، ۵۰ پنجاه، ۶۰ شصت، ۷۰ هفتاد، ۸۰ هشتاد، ۹۰ نود and ۱۰۰ صد.

Join a ten and a one with و: ۲۵ is بیست و پنج, ۴۷ is چهل و هفت and ۹۹ is نود و نه. The digits of a number keep their order from left to right, even inside a line of Dari.

The noun after any of these numbers stays singular: بیست و پنج روز. Write the number in words in a story or in dialogue, and in digits in prices, dates and lists.

    This market has fifty shops.

    پنجاه is one of the tens, and دکان stays singular.

  2. مکتب ما سی و دو معلم دارد.

    Our school has thirty-two teachers.

    سی و دو joins a ten and a one with و.

  3. این کتاب هفتاد صفحه دارد.

    This book has seventy pages.

    هفتاد is a ten, and صفحه stays singular.

  4. قیمت این کتاب ۵۵ افغانی است.

    The price of this book is 55 afghanis.

    Persian digits ۵۵ read as پنجاه و پنج.

  5. پانزده روز در کابل ماندم.

    I stayed in Kabul for fifteen days.

    پانزده is a single word for ۱۵.

Common Mistakes

  • Leaving out و between the ten and the one.

    مکتب ما سی دو معلم دارد.
    مکتب ما سی و دو معلم دارد.

    A ten and a one are joined with و: سی و دو.

  • Building a teen from ten and a one.

    ده و پنج روز در کابل ماندم.
    پانزده روز در کابل ماندم.

    Eleven to nineteen are single words. Fifteen is پانزده.
