لک is 100,000, the same number as صد هزار.

How It Works

Join the parts with و, from the biggest to the smallest: دو لک و پنجاه هزار (250,000). The noun after the number stays singular: سه هزار کتاب, دو لک افغانی.

لک is 100,000, so it means the same as صد هزار: صد هزار نفر (100,000 people).

Before صد and هزار, the word یک is optional: صد and یک صد both mean 100. A million is یک میلیون, or ده لک (ten lakh). Write money in Persian digits when you use numbers: ۵۰۰ افغانی (500 afghanis).

    This car costs 250,000 afghanis.

    لک is 100,000, and و joins the parts.

  2. یک کیلو انگور صد افغانی است.

    A kilo of grapes is 100 afghanis.

    صد is 100.

  3. کتابخانهٔ مکتب ما سه هزار کتاب دارد.

    Our school library has 3,000 books.

    سه هزار stands before the singular noun کتاب.

  4. برای عروسی دوصد نفر مهمان آمدند.

    Two hundred guests came to the wedding.

    دوصد is 200, and نفر counts the people.

  5. معاش او بیست هزار افغانی است.

    His salary is 20,000 afghanis.

    هزار comes after the number بیست.

Common Mistakes

  • Leaving out و between the parts of a big number.

    این خانه دو لک پنجاه هزار افغانی است.
    این خانه دو لک و پنجاه هزار افغانی است.

    Join the parts of a large number with و.

  • Using a plural noun after the number.

    کتابخانه سه هزار کتاب‌ها دارد.
    کتابخانه سه هزار کتاب دارد.

    After a number the noun stays singular.
